Atrial fibrillation is a heart disorder in which there occurs rapid and irregular beating of the heart. There are four chambers in heart – upper two chambers are known as atria and lower two chambers are known as ventricles. They beat in synchrony and circulate blood throughout the body. But in atrial fibrillation, they beat out of sync leading to irregular heart rate. The main reason of atrial fibrillation is formation of blood clots in heart. Difficulty in breathing, fatigue, pounding heart beat are some of the most common symptoms of atrial fibrillation. In some cases, it may have no symptoms at all. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, heart attack, etc.
