OVERVIEW
Hypertension is a medical condition which is characterized by increased pressure of blood in arteries. Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the flowing blood along the walls of arteries. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). Normal blood pressure of an individual is 120/80 mm Hg. When a person consistently has a blood pressure of 130/80 mm Hg or more, then he is suffering from hypertension. With time, the heart muscle gets weakened, thereby increasing the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart failure. However, other organs like kidney, etc can also get affected.
