INTRODUCTION
Osteoarthritis is a joint disease in which weight bearing joints are most commonly affected such as knees, hips, spine, etc. It is one of the most common forms of arthritis. Elderly people are more affected than young people due to wear and tear of the joint with increasing age. However, due to unhealthy lifestyle, now-a-days it is frequently in young people also.
A joint consists of two or more bones which are surrounded by a protective sheath known as capsule. There occurs protective cartilage present between the two ends of bones which get destroyed leading to abrasion of bone surfaces. Pain, inflammation and swelling are the most common symptoms of osteoarthritis.
There are various types of treatments such as oral medications and physiotherapy with which symptoms can be managed. However, good eating habits and regular physical exercise can be very beneficial for management of symptoms.
