WHAT IS CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE?
Chronic kidney disease is also known as chronic renal disease or chronic kidney failure. It is a disease in which there is gradual loss of kidney function over time. Kidneys are the excretory organs which remove wastes and excess fluids from the blood and pass it out in the form of urine. When the kidneys don’t work properly, there is build up of electrolytes, fluids and wastes in the body. In the early stages of kidney disease, the symptoms are minor but as the disease progresses, symptoms become prominent. It can lead to other health problems like anemia, high blood pressure, poor nutrition, etc. Early detection of the disease can prevent the further worsening of the kidney disease. If not treated at time, chronic kidney disease can lead to kidney failure due to which dialysis and kidney transplant is required for maintaining the life of an individual.
