Ayurveda and pancreatitis:
In Ayurveda the pancreas is defined as “Agnashya”. Agnashya symbolizes Agni (Fire). Pancreas is a seat of Agni. When all the doshas are balanced this Agni is stable and performs the function of digestion perfectly giving complete health to a person. When the pitta and vata (fire and air elements) doshas are in an imbalanced state it hampers the process of digestion. Later this vata and pitta aggravates the rasa dhatu (digestive fluids) In simple words, burning of the pancreas due to rise in pitta and vata dosha is called pancreatitis or “Agnashaya sotha”. In chronic pancreatitis the process of Dhatu kshaya (degenerative changes ) comes into play in Agnashaya (pancreas).
