Bipolar disorder , also formerly known as maniac depression is a mental disorder which results in extreme mood swings that include emotional highs also known as mania and lows known as depression. In depression one may feel sad or hopeless and lose all interest but, when the mood shifts to mania the person may feel euphoric. These occur in episodes which may be rare or may occur frequently in a year. It is a lifelong condition which can be managed.
CAUSES OF BIPOLAR DISORDER
There is no clear reason for this yet. But according to research, some of the reasons for this are as follows-
- Inherited traits
Genetic causes are considered among the major causes of bipolar disorder. If someone in the family is already suffering from this problem, then the probability of getting this disease increases in the coming generation.
- Biological differences
Physical changes in the brain are responsible for bipolar disorder. There is no significant information about these changes in research so far. Therefore, the search for its cause continues.
SYMPTOMS OF BIPOLAR DISORDER
There is no definite symptom of a bipolar disorder. Its symptoms may vary from person to person. Its symptoms also change from time to time. Some of the main features are as follows.
- Being very energetic or hyper active.
- Feeling abnormally irritable.
- Being overjoyed and over confident.
- Talk too much or talk too little
- Feeling restless.
- To keep something going in the mind.
- Always be indecisive.
- Weight gain or rapid occurrence.
- Loss of appetite.
HEALTH TIPS FOR BIPOLAR DISORDER
- Counseling , CBT(Cognitive behavioral therapy) and lifestyle changes are helpful in managing bipolar disorder’s symptoms.
- Getting enough sleep is very important as sleep problems can trigger mood swings.
- Keep a routine of healthy diet at regular time every day.
- Yoga and exercise daily is useful. Moderate level of physical activity for about 30 minutes daily helps in making person happy. Exercises like walking, jogging running which are aerobic in nature help in managing mental disorders.
DIET TO EAT
A healthy gut and healthy diet is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle. There was a study conducted in 2011 which found that over 68% of people who were obese were getting treated for bipolar disorder. Also people with bipolar disorder are at a greater risk of diabetes, low bone density and many other conditions including heart diseases. Also being overweight can complicate the recovery process. - Complex carbs such as brown rice, whole wheat bread, and whole grain pasta increase the production of serotonin in your brain, a chemical that is one of the best-feeling chemicals, which reduces anxiety and helps you stay more controlled. Does.
- Avoid Caffeine, alcohol, sugar, salt and fatty foods.
YOGA AND EXERCISE

HOW AYURVEDA HELPS IN BIPOLAR DISORDER
Although there is no specific mention of bipolar disorder in Ayurveda according to Ayurveda, bipolar illness results from an imbalance of the three mental gunas—satva, rajas, and tamas—as well as the three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha. Charaka Samhita describes mania, which affects the mind, intellect, perception, knowledge, behavioral activities. Five types of mania are described in it. These disorders depend on the involvement of symptoms and defects, which can be associated with bipolar disorder. According to Ayurveda, there is excessive blood loss due to increasing vata and depression due to bile. Vata imbalance is the main cause of bipolar disorder. Because excessive vata creates conditions of fear, isolation, anxiety, nervousness, nervous breakdown, mood changes, insomnia, tremor and instability.
