TYPES OF EPICONDYLITIS –
- Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis
- Golfers elbow or medial epicondylitis
- tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis
Tennis elbow is a swelling of tendon that causes pain in the elbow and arm the pain associated with tennis elbow may radiate from the outside of elbow into forearm and wrist
- it causes pain on the outside of the elbow
- mild discomfort that worsens over time
Symptoms of tennis elbow
- Difficulty in Shake hands
- External irritation or inflammation
- Elbow weakening
- Difficulty in grip an object
- Difficulty in Holding a mug
- The area is swelled and reddish in color
CAUSES OF TENNIS ELBOW
- Gripping a racket during a swing ( due to this strain the muscles and put too much stress on the tendons
- Excessive use of extensor of the fore arms
- Overusing forearm due to repetitive activities
- Trauma to the elbow
- Stress on elbow tendons
DIAGNOSE of tennis elbow :
- electromyography- this detect problem with the nerves in elbow
- flex arm, wrist, and elbow to see where it hurts.
- imaging tests, an X-ray or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) – to detect the arthritis in elbow
treatment of tennis elbow :
- apply ice on elbow to reduce pain and swelling.
- Apply elbow strap- to protect the injured tendon from further strain.
- use of non- steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) – to help with pain and swelling
- exercises to reduce stiffness and increase flexibility thrice a day
- physical therapy to strengthen and stretch the muscles.
- Self care (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
