MANAGING SCIATICA WITH AYURVEDA

Pain caused by an inflammation, irritation, pinching or compression of the sciatic nerve is known as Sciatica pain. The pain originates in the gluteal area. The sciatic nerve is body’s longest and thickest nerve, measuring almost a finger’s breadth. The sciatic nerve runs from lower back to buttock and down the legs to finish just below the knee. Pain intensity varies from person to person, some individuals report their discomfort as acute, shooting or jolting.
This condition is quite common in today’s era and can affect people of almost all ages.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF SCIATICA?
Some of the common causes of sciatica includes :
- Osteoarthritis
- Being over weight
- Lumber spinal stenosis
- Tumors within spine
- Degenerative disc disease
- Spondylolisthesis
- Sleeping on too soft or too hard mattress
- Being obese
- Smoking
- Sitting for too long
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SCIATICA?
Common symptoms experienced by the individual with sciatica are :
- Legs, foot or lower back weakness or numbness
- Moderate to severe lower back pain that radiates to the legs
- A prickling sensation in the foot, toes or legs
- Pain gets worse with movement
- Shooting pain that makes it difficult to get up
- Continuous pain on one side of back
- Foot burning or twisting
WHAT AYURVED SAYS ABOUT SCIATICA?
Sciatica pain is associated with Gridhrasi in Ayurveda. One of the 80 different vata imbalance disorder is gridhrasi. It is called Gridhrasi because the person walk in similar manner as vulture(gridhra). The vata dosh in the body is intensified as a result of nidan sevan. The hip area is invaded by the exacerbated vata dosha, which fills the circulation pathways. It causes stiffness and discomfort in that area, which spreads to legs and causes Gridhrasi.

CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE MEDICATION FOR TREATMENT OF SCIATICA :
1. Makar Rasayan tablet:
Makar Rasayan is a herbo-mineral tablet and is purely Ayurvedic formulation. CAC MAKAR RASAYAN tablet help in balancing all the three doshas. 3. Pain-O-kill Tablets:
As the name suggests these tablets will kill the pain naturally. The herbs present in the formation of these tablets are Ashwagandha, Hadjod, Punarnava, Nirgundi, Methi, Garlic, etc. These herbs in combination show antioxidant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immuno-modulator properties. The regular use of these tablets reduce body pain and acts on its root cause.
Recommended Dosage: Take 1 tablet twice daily with normal water.
4. Trikatu Syrup:
