What does Ayurveda say about Pneumonia?
Shwasanaka jwara is the term given to Pneumonia in Ayurveda. Out of three doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha, predominantly kapha dosha is vitiated along with ama formation (accumulation of toxins). These toxins or ama blocked the srotas (microchannels) of the body results in the adulturating the Agni (digestive Fire). Spreading the Agni throughout the body from its place Kostha (stomach), pushing heat towards the skin resulting in rise of body temperature. Ayurveda focuses on reduction of Kapha dosha to promote healing and decreasing symptoms of pneumonia.
