NATURAL BREATHING

This is a technique which familiarize practitioners to their own respiratory system and breathing patterns. It is very soothing and may be practiced at any time. Awareness of the breathing process is itself enough to slow down the respiratory rate and establish a more relaxed rhythm.

Natural breathing

Sit in a comfortable meditative posture and relax the whole body. Notice the natural and spontaneous breathing process. Develop complete awareness of the rhythmic flow of the breath. Feel and observe the breath flowing in and out of the nose. Do not control the breath forcefully. Observe that the breath is cool as it enters the nostrils and warm as it flows out. Notice this with the attitude of a detached witness. Observe the breath flowing in and out at the back of the mouth above the throat. Bring the perception down to the region of the throat and feel the breath flowing in the throat. Bring the attention down to the region of the chest and feel the breath flowing in the trachea and bronchial tubes. Next, notice the breath flowing in the lungs. Be attentive of the lungs expanding and relaxing. Transfer the attention to the rib cage and observe the expansion and relaxation of this area. Bring the perception down to the abdomen. Notice the abdomen move upward on inhalation .Finally, become perceptive of the whole breathing process from the nostrils to the abdomen and continue observing it for some time. Bring the perception back to observing the physical body as one unit and open the eyes.

ABDOMINAL BREATHING

Abdominal or diaphragmatic breathing is practiced by improving the action of the diaphragm and minimizing the action of the rib cage. The diaphragm is a domed sheet of muscle that divides the lungs from the abdominal cavity and, when functioning correctly, enhances the most efficient type of breathing. Reactivity to the muscle itself, however, will come with the practice. During inhalation the diaphragm moves downward, shove the abdominal contents downward and outward. When breathing out the diaphragm moves upward and the abdominal contents move inward.

Movement of the diaphragm indicates that the lower lobes of the lungs are being utilized. The correct use of the diaphragm causes equal expansion of the alveoli, improves lymphatic drainage from basal parts of the lungs, and massages the liver, stomach, small and large intestines and other organs that lie exactly beneath it, exerts effect on the cardiac functions and improves oxygenation of the blood. Abdominal (or diaphragmatic) breathing

Lie in shavasana and relax the entire body. Observe the breath and don’t control it. Let it be entirely natural. Continue noticing the natural breath for some time. Place the right hand on the abdomen just above the umbilicus and the left hand over the chest. The right hand will move up with breathing in and down with breathing out.

There should be no strain in the abdomen. Do not try to force the movement in any way. Try not to expand the chest or move shoulder. Observe the abdomen expanding and contracting. Continue breathing gently and deeply. Inhale while expanding the abdomen as much as possible, without expansion of the rib cage. At the end of the inhalation the diaphragm will be compressing the abdomen and the umbilicus will be at its highest point. On breathing out the diaphragm moves upward and the abdomen moves downward. At the end of the exhalation the abdomen will be squeezed and the navel compressed towards the spine. Continue for a few minutes.

THORACIC BREATHING

Thoracic breathing use the middle lobes of the lungs by expanding and contracting the rib cage. It spends more energy than abdominal breathing for the same quantity of air exchange. It is often affiliated with physical exercise and exertion, when it helps the body to obtain more oxygen. However, the tendency in many people is to resume this type of breathing long after the stressful situation has passed, creating bad breathing habits and sustained tension.

Thoracic breathing

Sit in a meditation posture or lie in shavasana and relax the entire body. Maintain unbroken alertness of the natural breath for some time, emphasizing on the sides of the chest. CLAVICULAR BREATHING

YOGIC BREATHING

Its purpose is to improve control of the breath, correct bad breathing habits and increase oxygen intake. It may be performed at any time and is especially useful in situations of high stress, anxiety or anger for calming the nerves.

At the end of abdominal expansion, begin to expand the chest outward and upward. Observe the air filling the upper lobes of the lungs.

This completes one inhalation. The entire process should be one continuous movement, every phase of breathing merging into the next without any exact transition point. There should be no jerks or

unnecessary stress. Now begin to exhale. First, relieve the lower neck and upper chest, then support the chest to contract downward and then inward. Next, allow the diaphragm to shove upward and toward the chest. Without straining, try to empty the lungs as much as possible by drawing up the abdominal wall as near as possible to the spine. The entire movement should be harmonious, peacefully and flowing. Retain the breath for a few seconds at the end of exhalation. This will completes one round of yogic breathing. At first perform 5 to 10 rounds and gradually increase to 10 minutes daily.

Celery water

Cinnamon and Cloves 

Cinnamon and cloves are very beneficial for reducing abdominal fat after pregnancy. For this, boil 2-3 cloves and half a teaspoon of cinnamon and drink it by lukewarm water. This remedy will reduce the stomach soon. Stomach works by trying this remedy for one to two months.

Green Tea

Green tea is very beneficial in reducing everyone’s weight. It is rich in anti-oxidants. Also, it does not harm the health of baby and mother and also reduces weight.

Fenugreek Seeds 

Fenugreek has many benefits, one of them is to reduce stomach after pregnancy. Fenugreek seeds are very helpful in reducing stomach. Also, they reduce the stomach by keeping hormones balanced in women. Boil 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds in a glass of water at night time. Then drink this water when it is lukewarm. The stomach will reduce quickly.

Almond and Raisins 

Almonds and dry grapes are one of the best ways to reduce abdominal fat. In particular, almonds contain carbohydrate, fiber, vitamin B2 and vitamin E. In addition, magnesium, zinc and calcium are also found in it. When normal delivery is done, grind 10 almonds and 10 seeds without dry seeds in mixer. And after delivery, drink this paste in a cup of hot milk and drink it for at least 10 days. This will not increase your excess abdominal fat.

Honey, Pepper and Ginger 

These three things are also very helpful in reducing stomach after pregnancy. For this, drink a glass of lukewarm water, one teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon pepper and half a teaspoon of ginger juice on an empty stomach in the morning. This home remedy will reduce belly fat

Nutmeg and Milk 

Drink one-fourth teaspoon of nutmeg powder in one cup of warm milk one hour before bedtime. This reduces stomach significantly.

Exercise and yoga to reduce stomach after pregnancy

Exercise and yoga for weight loss after delivery

Whether delivery is normal or Caesarean, you should reduce belly through yoga and exercise along with home remedies. Here we are telling you about some such yoga and exercise, which after pregnancy, reduce both your fat and weight. The special thing is that you will not have to go to the gym to do these exercises, but at home you can do them easily. But keep in mind that if your delivery is Caesarean, please consult your doctor once before adopting measures to reduce stomach after Caesarean.

Jogging 

No delivery should be exercised after delivery that will affect your health. It will be better if you start with light exercise and jogging for it can be good. Go for a walk every morning and evening and go jogging. Start weight loss exercise only after 2-3 months.

Pranayama 

Talk about yoga, Pranayama is best for such a state. This will gradually reduce the fat of your stomach but you will get a perfect shape.

Heel Slides Exercise 

You can exercise heel slides to lose weight after pregnancy. You do this exercise for 20 to 30 minutes daily and get rid of your belly fat.

Ball Roll Out Exercise 

This exercise is very effective for working the stomach and there is no need to apply much strength in it.

Aerobics 

If you want to reduce waist fat along with the stomach then what else can be good of aerobics. With this, your stomach will not only be inside but the figure will also be maintained.

After pregnancy weight loss tips 

Apart from home remedies and exercises, there are many things that should be included in your routine or you should take special care of those things. Know some important tips .

Breastfeeding is necessary 

Breastfeeding should be given to the baby after birth. By breastfeeding, fat cells and calories present in the body work together to make milk, which reduces weight without doing anything. In addition, external milk is harmful for the baby.

Do not diet or fast 

After pregnancy, your food and drink also affects your child. As long as you are breastfeeding your baby, do not eat anything that is bad for your baby’s health to reduce your stomach or lose weight. Do not do diet or fast at all.

Drink hot water

Use only warm water for drinking after giving birth to a child, because warm water not only reduces the stomach, but it also prevents the body from becoming fat.

Include these in the diet

Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet. These will fill calcium and protein deficiency in the body after pregnancy. Include pumpkin, carrots, beans, broccoli, turnips etc. in vegetables. In the same fruits, eat grapes, oranges, guava and strawberries etc. Apart from this, stay away from canned food, instead try to eat fresh food made at home.

Full sleep

We know that after the birth of a child you have little sleep. Children mostly wake up at night and sleep a lot during the day. AYURVEDIC VIEW OF ASTHMA AND ROLE OF KAPHA IN ASTHAMA

The features of Bronchial Asthma can be compared to Tamak shwasa  explaindes in Ayurveda.

Shwasa is a major clinical condition according to Ayurveda and it has classes and subclasses. There are five types of Shwasa roga, Maha svasa  Urdhava svasa  chinna shwasa Tamak shwasa  Kshudra  shwasa. Among these five first three are incurabe, Tamak shwasa is difficult to cure but is controllable(Yapya roga). Kshudra shwasa is curable.

ETIOPATHOGENESIS OF ASTHMA

It originates at the site of Pitta(in the stomach) with simultaneous aggravation of Kapha and vata.

Kledak kapha accumulates and moves to the lungs. Kapha has properties like cold, slimy, unctuous, heavy and vata is cold dry rough and mobile in nature. These two intermix in lungs and and mucous present in the lungs becomes sticky, thick and it adheres to the walls of bronchi and narrows the bronchial tubes which leads to episodes of breathlessness or Asthma attack.

Charak Samhita says ” If vata predominantly associated with Kapha obstructs the circulation channels and moves in all directions in the body then this obstructed vata causes Shwasa.

Ashtang Hridyam has similar concept as Charaka. It says “Vata is obstructed in its movement by kapha and it spreads in all directions, vitiates the Pranavaha srotas(Channels of respiration), Udakvaha srotas(channels of water), Annavaha srotas(Channels of food), located in our chest and causes Shwasa, arising from stomach”

FACTORS AGGRAVATING  KAPHA AND VATA

Environmental factors are listed but most of the factors involved are due to lifestyle and dietary habits that aggravates vata and kapha.

  • Exposure to dust, smoke, wind(airborne pollens)
  • Residing in cold places
  • Exercise or walk beyond one’s own capacity
  • Stress that may be induced by exercise
  • Improper food combining and habitual eating of unhealthy food leading to Vitiated metabolism(causing Agnimandya and Ama)
  • Constipation associated with flatulence
  • Intake of food in deficient or excessive quantity
  • Excess fasting or excess eating and agitated digestion resulting from it.
  • Dryness in Respiratory tract(particularly lower) and upper GIT due to non unctuous food.
  • Trauma to throat, chest and vital organs

SYMPTOMS

PRODROMAL :

  • Pain in the heart region and flanks
  • Upward movement of Prana (Respiration)
  • Flatulence
  • Splitting pain in the temples

VATAJ  ASTHMA SYMPTOMS  PRESENTATION 

    • Dryness, cough and wheezing
    • Dry mouth and skin
    • Thirst
    • Constipation
    • Anxiety
    • Craving warm drinks
  • Aggravation of the condition or episodes  occur at dawn and dusk (Vata times)

PITTAJ  ASTHMA  SYMPTOM PRESENTATION

    • Wheezing
    • Coughing with yellow Phlegm
    • Fever may be there
    • Sweating and need for cold air
    • Irritability
  • Attacks occur during Pitta times, Noon and midnight

KAPHAJ  ASTHMA  SYMPTOMS  PRESENTATION

    • Wheezing and coughing with abundant white or clear phlegm(mucous)
    • Instead of wheezing there will be a Railing sound produced by fluid in the lungs
  • Attacks occur during Kapha times of the day, Morning and Evenings.

LINE  OF TREATMENT  OF  ASTHAMA

Avoidance of triggering factors, improving quality of life with minimum medication is the aim of Astma management.

NIDAN  PARIVARJAN(Avoidance of triggering factors)  : Causative factor,  Exposure to allergen or factor causing recurrent exacerbation should be avoided.  For example

  • Oily greasy fried food.
  • Cold and refrigerated food and drinks
  • Excessive physical exercise or other activities
  • Smoking (Active and passive)
  • Heavy foods like milk, cheese, banana

SHODHAN CHIKITSA : It is purification process which eliminates vitiated doshas from the body. It includes

  • Snehan : Massaging body with Til oil mixed with saindhav lavan, specifically on chest and back region.
  • Swedana
  • Vaman
  • Virechan(Purgation) : Ayurveda says “Tamke tu virechanam”. Virechana is best in Tamak shwasa(Bronchial Asthama).  Kutaki(picrorhiza kurroa ) 1-3gm with honey in Asthma and Bronchitis is given twice daily for virechana.
  • Dhumpana : Chandan, Guggulu, Haridradi, Lehsunadi dhumpana

SHAMAN CHIKITSA : People who are too weak to be given Shodhan therapy are given Shaman chikitsa.  It includes internal medication that pacifies doshas, are Vatanuloak, ushna, have deepan pachan properties, Some ayurveda Shaman drugs and formulations are as follows

CAC Cough Go Tablets : It is a herbo mineral preparation and helps in balancing Kapha dosha. It shows effective results in  all respiratory diseases along with seasonal allergies and bronchial asthma.

It has ingredients :

  1. Sonth (Zingiber officinale)
  2. Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
  3. Pippali(Piper longum)
  4. Kali mirch(Piper nigrum)
  5. Abhrak bhasm
  6. Tankan bhasm
  7. Lakshmivilas rasa

These ingredients are Anti inflammatory, Anti oxidant, immuno modulator, Bronchodialator, Expectorant.

Other than Bronchial asthma it is useful in Chronic cough, whooping cough, common cold, Bronchitis.

DOSAGE  : One tablet(650mg) twice a day with normal water.

SHWASKUTHAR RASA  :  It is an broncho dialator, expectorant, antioxidant.

 Useful in cough, breathlessness, restlessness, chronic bronchitis, Indigestion.

DOSE : 125-250mg, once or twice daily, with honey or water

Few other formulations used in Asthma are : Sitopaladi churan, Talisadi churana, Kantakari avleha, vasa haritaki leha, vyoshadi vati, Dashmool kwath.

SINGLE  DRUGS IN ASTHMA

  • Powder of Talisa(Abies wabbiana) mixed with juice of leaves of VASA(Adhatoda vasica) should be used in cough caused by kapha and pitta
  • Juice of Vasa leaves should be taken with honey in cough caused by Kapha and pitta and intrinsic haemorrhage
  • In dry cough Vasa juice cooked Haridra (Curcuma longa) with fatty layer of milk
  • Cold infusion(Phanta) of Vasa checks cough, fever and intrinsic haemorrhage
  • Powder of Agaru(Aquilaria agalocha) mixed with honey is taken
  • Shunthi(Zingiber officinale), Pippali(Piper longum), and Amalaki(Emblica officinalis) with honey
  • Powdered seed of Timir(Eleusine aegyptiaca) and Karkatsringi(Pistacia integerria) mixed with ghee and honey
  • Ghee cooked with double quantity of decoction of Sariva(Hemidesmus indicus)
  • Decoction of Nirgundi, Guduchi, Haritaki, Marich in equal parts with salt

APATHYA

  • Heavy foods like cheese, rice, sugar,lentils, curd, buttermilk, paneer
  •  Masha, Tila, Sarshap(Brassica niagra), beans, Tubers like Potato
  • Buffalo milk and ghee
  • Fruits like Guava, Banana, Watermelon, Papaya

PATHYA

  • Garlic, Spinach, Brinjal, Grapes, Indian Gooseberry, Goat milk, Honey
  • fruits like figs, dry grapes(raisins), pomegranate, fruits full of vitamin C such as oranges, strawberries, blueberries
  • Maintain a gap of atleast  1hour between eating and sleeping.

YOGA  AND PRANAYAMA

These yoga asanas can relieve asthma symptoms by opening chest muscles

  • Bridge pose
  • Cobra pose
  • Seated spinal twist

Breathing exercises relives stress and helps with the shortness of breath in asthma

  • Alternate nostril breathing
  • Victorious breathing or Ujjayi Pranayaa.
